Kavita R. Dhanwada, Ph.D. and Jeff Klein have been appointed to the Board of Directors of United Hebrew in New Rochelle, New York, further strengthening the organization’s leadership as it continues to expand its model for integrated, person-centered senior living that supports older adults in living healthy, connected and purposeful lives.
“As communities rethink how best to support an aging population, United Hebrew is leading with new approaches that integrate high-quality care, wellness and enriching programs,” said Rosemary McLaughlin, chair of United Hebrew’s Board of Directors. “Kavita Dhanwada’s expertise in health-care education and workforce development, together with Jeff Klein’s public policy experience, will be invaluable in guiding our continued growth as a model for integrative senior living.”
Dhanwada serves as the founding dean of the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Nursing & Health Sciences at Iona University. A respected academic and health-care leader, she brings extensive experience in strategic planning, program development and interdisciplinary education.
Prior to joining Iona, she was the founding dean of the Borra College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Dominican University, where she led strategic growth, launched new academic programs and secured key accreditations across nursing, physician assistant studies, and nutrition and dietetics.
Dhanwada has also led major grant-funded initiatives, including serving as project director for a $5 million U.S. Department of Education STEM grant focused on expanding access for underrepresented students.
Klein brings decades of public service and policy leadership experience to the Board. First elected to the New York State Senate in 2004, Klein built a reputation as a committed and effective leader, ultimately serving as president of the Senate and leading the Independent Democratic Conference.
During his tenure, Klein championed landmark legislation, including marriage equality, gun reform, the $15 minimum wage, universal pre-kindergarten and paid family leave. He also advanced policies supporting seniors and vulnerable populations, including expansions to rent and homeowner protections.
Klein also played a key role in securing funding for infrastructure and housing improvements across New York, including major investments in public transit and public housing repairs. Today, he serves as president of Allied Government Affairs, where he advises organizations on high-level policy and government relations strategies.
The addition of Dhanwada and Klein reflects United Hebrew’s ongoing commitment to building a diverse and experienced board to help guide the organization through a period of continued growth and innovation. Their leadership will support initiatives that enhance clinical care and ensure older adults across Westchester County and the region have opportunities to thrive at every stage of aging.
