Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties was the beneficiary of a dinner fundraiser hosted by New Windsor American Legion Post 1796 on March 28, raising nearly $10,000 to support patients and families receiving end-of-life care.
More than 150 dinners were served during the evening, with proceeds generated through ticket sales, raffles, sponsorships and donations. The event brought together residents, volunteers and local leaders in support of the hospice mission to provide compassionate physical, emotional and spiritual care with comfort, dignity and respect.
“We are deeply appreciative of the New Windsor American Legion and everyone who contributed to this event,” said Eric Gatsik, president and CEO of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. “Support like this strengthens our ability to be there for patients and families during some of life’s most important moments and ensures we can continue delivering compassionate care across our community.”
Guests were treated to a full Italian-style dinner, donated by event organizers and supporters.
The fundraiser was led by New Windsor American Legion Commander Charlie Baranyai and event coordinator Al Favata, with additional support from Christy Favata Fairbanks and Sal Cracolici, who donated the food for the evening.
Following dinner, the event transitioned into a lively community celebration as guests filled the dance floor. Live music was provided by Dr. Magneetoe and The Sugar Beats, two popular local classic rock bands.
The evening also highlighted the strong volunteer spirit of the community. Individuals assisted in all aspects of the event, from food preparation and service to set-up and guest support. Volunteers also coordinated a golf cart valet service, while Hospice Board of Directors members assisted with event logistics and welcomed attendees.
Local elected officials joined in supporting the cause by volunteering as guest servers. Servers included New Windsor Town Supervisor Steve Bedetti, Town Councilman Charles Broe, New York State Assemblyman Chris Eachus, Town of Newburgh Deputy Supervisor Scott Manley, New Windsor Town Councilwoman Sylvia Santiago and Orange County Legislator Virginia Scott.
The event reflected the continued partnership between Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties and the communities it serves, demonstrating the impact of collective support for individuals and families navigating serious illness.
