The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) has announced the appointment of Russell Katz as director of film education, marking an exciting new chapter for the organization’s growing slate of hands-on, community-driven programming. Alongside his appointment, TPH is also unveiling its 2026 Summer Camps — an expanded lineup of immersive filmmaking experiences developed under Katz’s leadership.
A graduate of New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Katz brings a dynamic, multidisciplinary background spanning narrative, documentary and experimental film. He has collaborated with notable comedic voices, including Rachel Sennott and Please Don’t Destroy. Most recently, he served as director of photography on the pilot BFA and is currently producing a feature film.
Working fluidly as a director, cinematographer, editor and writer, Katz brings a holistic, practice-based approach to film education. His teaching emphasizes creative risk-taking, technical fluency and collaboration — equipping students with both the skills and confidence to tell their own stories.
“Russell brings an incredible range of creative experience and a deep commitment to mentorship,” said Clayton Bushong, executive director of TPH. “His vision for film education is hands-on, inclusive and forward-thinking –– exactly what we need as we continue to expand our programs and deepen our impact in the community.”
Under Katz’s leadership, The Picture House is launching its 2026 Summer Camps, offering a dynamic lineup of programs for students of all ages. Rooted in TPH’s educational mission, these camps go beyond entertainment — empowering participants to develop creative confidence, technical skills and a deeper understanding of film as a powerful storytelling medium.
“At The Picture House, we believe in the transformative power of cinema — not just as entertainment, but as a profound art form that shapes how we see the world,” said Bushong. “Our camps are designed to spark curiosity, build skills and inspire young storytellers to find their voice and share it with others.”
Housed in two historic theaters from the 1920s, TPH is a thriving regional film center providing dynamic film and education programs to a diverse and multigenerational audience in Westchester County and beyond. Across five screens in Pelham and Bronxville, audiences see the best in new, independent and classic cinema. TPH education programs provide students of all ages with the opportunity to learn about the art, science and business of film. A mission-driven, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, The Picture House has two locations: The Picture House Pelham is located at 175 Wolfs Lane, Pelham, New York. The Picture House Bronxville is at 84 Kraft Ave., Bronxville.
All camps are held at The Studio at The Picture House Bronxville.
