BRIDGEPORT – A Hartford HealthCare subsidiary has filed for a certificate of need with the state Office of Health Strategy to operate the Surgical Center of Connecticut at 4920 Main St. The filing was made earlier this month by Surgical Center of Connecticut LLC, SCA-Main Street LLC and HHC Surgery Center Holdings LLC because of a change in governance of the Bridgeport surgical center.
Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA) is a national surgical solutions provider while HHC Surgery Center is part of Hartford HealthCare, which operates several hospitals and urgent care centers throughout the state including Hartford Hospital.
The Surgical Center of Connecticut,LLC owns and operates The Surgical Center of Connecticut, a licensed outpatient surgical facility. The proposal is part of a phased transaction and has no associated capital expenditure, according to the filing.
In Connecticut, a Certificate of Need (CON) is a regulatory process requiring certain healthcare entities to obtain state approval before making significant changes to their facilities or services.
The Surgical Center of Connecticut is a free-standing, physician-owned, multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center that was renovated in 2014. The center is equipped to meet the needs of our ambulatory surgery population from endoscopies to spine surgery.
Prior to the filing of the CON, the surgical staff has been comprised of physicians who are affiliated with Bridgeport Hospital, Griffin Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Milford Hospital.
