Five of the 10 municipalities that have signed the state’s Clean Energy Communities Pledge so far are located in Fairfield County.
Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Stafford and Trumbull all signed on, pledging that by 2018 they will have reduced municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent and will be purchasing 20 percent of their electricity from clean, renewable sources.
The program is part of the Energize Connecticut initiative, which aims to revitalize the nationally recognized Clean Energy Communities program.
Towns and cities can earn points for their clean energy initiatives as well as whenever a resident or business installs a clean energy system, enrolls in a energy program or signs up for a home assessment.
For every 100 points generated, the participating city or town will receive a “Bright Idea Grant” for between $5,000 and $15,000 to be used toward a community energy-saving project.
