Smart growth requires smart civic officials, entrepreneurs and industry leaders and the group Historic Hudson River Towns is hoping to bring them all together Dec. 8 for a daylong discussion on how to piece together a smarter future for the Hudson Valley.
“The Hudson Valley in the 21st Century: Smart Growth and Regional Cooperation” is a conference scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fishkill Holiday Inn, Route 9 in Fishkill. The session will focus on the impact of New York state’s new Smart Growth legislation.
The conference will focus on the state”™s Smart Growth Policy Infrastructure Act and its impact on the Hudson Valley.
The conference hopes to highlight such smart growth ideas as transportation oriented development focused on rail, walkable population centers and other progressive planning ideas aimed at revitalizing urban areas in the region.
Discussion will include programs from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Greene, Columbia, Albany and Rensselaer counties, with speakers to include Paul Beyer, Director of Smart Growth, New York State Governor”™s Office and Glenn Gidaly, senior project manager, Barton & Loguidice P.C.
Clay Hiles of the Hudson River Foundation, along with Kent Barwick and Bob Elliott, will report on the findings of OurHudson.org. Members of the Mid-Hudson Valley Regional Planning Partnership will discuss the efforts of Orange, Dutchess and Ulster Counties to work together on planning issues.
