The supermarket chain Wegmans at 9 a.m. on July 23 has opened its first store in Connecticut at 675 Connecticut Ave. in Norwalk. The 92,000-square-feet store boasts food service facilities that have seating for 177 people plus additional seats outside. There are 14 full-service checkout aisles with 12 self-checkout machines and five additional registers located in the market cafe.
The property features parking for 551 vehicles in a two-story parking garage that also has 12 electric vehicle charging stations and solar panels to generate electricity for use on the property.

The site is on 11 acres and is located near Interstate Highway I-95.
“Each year we receive hundreds of requests from residents for a store in Connecticut, so we’re excited to bring Wegmans to Norwalk and to get to know our new neighbors,” said Colleen Wegman, president and CEO of Wegmans.
“We’re just getting started,” said Norwalk Service Manager Cody Nunn. “We’re looking forward to getting involved in events throughout the community and volunteering our time with local organizations. We want to build upon what we’ve already accomplished and be a staple for the community.”
Back in August of 2024, when the Norwalk location was in development, Wegmans began its sponsorship of community events with a summer concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of the nonprofit Open Doors. In November 2024, the under-construction Norwalk store donated $1,000 worth of non-perishable products and reusable bags to Open Doors to help fill the shelves of their food pantry.

In March 2025, the team donated over 200 cases of nonperishable products to the Norwalk Community College Food Pantry to help their students access free, wholesome food. The pantry is one of the Norwalk store’s perishable pickup partners, receiving weekly donations of unsaleable perishable food items.
Connecticut Foodshare and Food Rescue US will also receive daily donations through the store’s perishable pickup program.
In June, the Norwalk store presented 10 local seniors from Norwalk High School, Brien McMahon High School, and J.M. Wright Technical High School with a $500 scholarship grant each. Wegmans in Norwalk also provided donations to the Norwalk Education Foundation and Horizons at CT State Norwalk.
As of July 15, Wegmans had 114 stores in the U.S. There are 50 stores in New York, 19 in Pennsylvania, 15 in Virginia, nine each in Maryland and New Jersey, five in Massachusetts, 4 in North Carolina and one each in the District of Columbia, Delaware and Connecticut.
