Vice President of First County Bank Foundation Willard Miley

First County Bank Foundation recently announced that Dr. Alfred B. Fusco of Norwalk, Connecticut, is the recipient of the 2025 Reyno A. Giallongo Community Legacy Award. A commemorative award plaque was presented to Fusco at First County Bank Foundation’s Celebration of Mutual Partnerships on October 16 at UCONN Stamford. A $2,500 donation, in the name of Dr. Fusco, will be made to the Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach of Southington, Connecticut.

Fusco who resided in Stamford for over 50 years until recently relocating to Norwalk, has an extraordinary history of community involvement. He has dedicated his time to “Connecticut Mission of Mercy” since its founding in 2008, by providing dental treatment to underserved and uninsured around the state, with priority treatment for veterans. Fusco is presently the lead of the Restorative Dentistry Department managing 30-40 volunteer dentists, dental assistants and community volunteers.

In 1976, Fusco was a founding member of the Stamford Chapter of Unico National, a community service organization made up of Italian American business and professional men and women. In 1978, he founded and continues to administer the “Gift of Christmas Fund” of the Stamford Chapter of Unico, which delivers, food, clothing and gifts to needy families in Stamford through partnerships with local churches and the Salvation Army, thereby, giving the joy of Christmas to hundreds of families. In 1992, Fusco was the chairman of the city of Stamford’s Parade for the Quincentennial Celebration of Columbus discovering America and in 2014 he was named the grand marshal for the city of Stamford’s Columbus Day Parade. Fusco continues to give back by being a member of the Stamford Veterans Council, advocating for veteran services and benefits and by continuing to provide free dental exams and cancer screenings to veterans. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis College; graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry and served in the US Army with a rank of captain. He has won numerous awards and is a member of the American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association and Stamford Dental Society.

“Dr. Fusco clearly exemplifies the spirit of the Reyno A. Giallongo Community Legacy Award. His steadfast commitment to the local community has impacted the most-needy of our local residents” said, Robert J. Granata, chairman and CEO of First County Bank and president of First County Bank Foundation. “Dr. Fusco’s generosity of time and spirit are truly inspirational, and we are proud to honor him with this year’s award,” said Granata.

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized with this prestigious award. My volunteer activities over the years have provided me with a great sense of pride and I consider it a privilege to give back to those in need,” said Fusco. “I thank First County Bank Foundation for this recognition and for their continued support of the local community,” he said.

Established in 2018, the Reyno A. Giallongo Community Legacy Award, named after First County Bank’s retired chairman and CEO, recognizes the exceptional achievements and meaningful contributions of an individual or couple, residing in Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Westport or Bridgeport, who through their actions, experience, talent and skills, directly benefit activities and programs in the areas of affordable housing, economic development, education or quality of life for families and children, as consistent with the First County Bank Foundation mission. The Community Legacy Award honoree receives a commemorative plaque and $2,500 donation to the nonprofit of their choice.

Established in 2001 in honor of the Bank’s 150th anniversary, First County Bank Foundation was created to distribute funds annually to nonprofit organizations that support community and economic development, affordable housing, and programs that support quality of life and educational enrichment for children and families. As a mutual bank with no shareholders, First County Bank considers grants made by the foundation a means of paying dividends back to the local communities it serves.

Headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut for almost 175 years, First County Bank is an independent mutual community bank with 13 branches in Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Greenwich, Fairfield, New Canaan, and Westport offering deposit products, mortgages, wealth management, business banking services, and a full array of digital banking products.

First County Bank has more than 200 employees, assets in excess of $2.3 billion and is a winner of the Hearst Connecticut Top WorkPlaces Award 2020-2025.
