
Recently United Illuminating (UI), Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG), and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG), subsidiaries of Avangrid Inc., announced the expansion of the companies’ local government relations organization with the hiring of new team members, each with deep experience in Connecticut state government. Vice President of State Government Relations John Vamos joined the U/CNG/SCG team in January following more than 22 years with the Connecticut General Assembly. Program Manager for State Government Relations Gregory “Greg” Davis joined in August after two years with the Connecticut House Democrats and 10 years of experience in technology, change management and outreach and recruitment.
“With utility service increasingly essential to hundreds of thousands of Connecticut homes and businesses, it’s more important than ever that we have a strong team working with our partners in state government,” said Frank Reynolds, president and CEO of UI, CNG and SCG.
Vamos began in his career in the Connecticut General Assembly in 2003, when he joined the Labor and Public Employees Committee as a deputy clerk. He became a legislative aide with the House Republican Office in 2004 and was subsequently promoted to research and policy analyst and, later, the director of research and policy. Vamos graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Connecticut in 2002.
Davis joined the Connecticut House Democrats as the AI Policy Analyst and Outreach Coordinator in October 2023. There, he organized town halls, workshops, and other public outreach events to increase public awareness of state programs. He was also appointed to the Social Equity Council. Prior to his role in the Connecticut General Assembly, Davis was a technical sourcer and program lead for Meta (Facebook), where, in partnership with senior leadership, he aligned recruiting and sourcing initiatives with organizational strategies, market trends, and the company’s diversity goals. Davis graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2015.
Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation (CNG) is a subsidiary of Avangrid Inc. Established in 1848, CNG operates 2,200 miles of natural gas distribution pipeline, serving approximately 183,000 customers across 26 communities in the greater Hartford-New Britain area, and Greenwich, Connecticut.
Established in 1847, SCG operates approximately 2,500 miles of natural gas distribution pipelines, serving approximately 206,000 customers in the greater New Haven and Bridgeport areas of Connecticut.
The United Illuminating Company, a subsidiary of Avangrid, established in 1899, operates approximately 3,600 miles of electric distribution lines and 138 miles of transmission lines. It serves approximately 341,000 customers in the greater New Haven and Bridgeport areas of Connecticut. UI received the Edison Electric Institute’s Emergency Recovery Award in 2019 and 2021.
