It”™s a new economy. The rules have changed. Businesses must, too.
As we emerge from the “officially” ended Great Recession, cautious optimism rules the day but there is a growing sense of stability here in Westchester.
Was this the worst recession? That”™s debatable. Was it the last? No.
The Westchester County Business Journal has seen myriad economic downturns, financial crises and bursting real estate bubbles in the 46 years since its founding.
And that includes the economic booms and busts witnessed during the last 20 years under the newspaper”™s current owner, Westfair Business Publications. The Business Journal has covered the ups and downs, the movers and shakers ”“ see the 100 people we”™ve listed this week alone, starting on page 38 ”“ innovators and newsmakers, and noted a few milestones along the way.
Now we note one milestone of our own. Westfair is celebrating its 20th anniversary as owner and publisher of the Westchester County Business Journal and the Fairfield County Business Journal in Connecticut.
To mark the occasion, we decided to take a fresh look at ourselves ”“ where we are and how we got here.
To do that, we needed to go back to the beginning. We went directly to the source ”“ David E. Moore who, along with the late John K. Smith, founded the Westchester County Business Journal and the Fairfield County Business Journal.
Reporter John Golden spoke with Moore, who is featured on our newly designed cover. As you”™ll glean from the story, the Business Journal has evolved with the county”™s changing landscape.
The evolution continues with our new design ”“ a fresh approach to the way we present the news. You can expect the same in-depth coverage for which the paper is noted, but you”™ll see the information presented in a cleaner, more dynamic form. You”™ll also notice new features and sections this week ”“ and there”™s much more to come.
These are vital times for business as we move forward in this post-recession, ultra-competitive environment.
