GREENWICH – The local Acme Market store at 160 W. Putnam Ave. is closing on or about Oct. 9, according to its owner New Albertsons L.P.
The supermarket has advised the State of Connecticut that all 56 associates who work there will be offered jobs at another location. The nearest Acme stores to the West Putnam Avenue store are in Riverside (a section of Greenwich), Stamford, New Canaan in Connecticut, as well as others in nearby Westchester County.
In an Aug. 4 letter to First Selectman Fred Camillo and the Connecticut Department of Labor, Acme Market Vice President of Human Resources Kimberly Hilser wrote:
“We are writing to advise you of a store closing and the transfer of associates by New Albertsons L.P. and its affiliates, that are expected to take place at Acme Market Store No. 2494, located at 160 W. Putnam Ave., Greenwich, CT 06830. … While we will be transferring the affected associates, the exact placement of positions has not yet been completed.
“In the meantime, to ensure compliance with federal and state laws regarding facility closures, we are providing you with this notice. The store is expected to close to the public on or about October 9, 2025, but associates will continue to work at the store to close operations for a period of time after that date.”
UFCW Local 371, which is led by its President Ronald Petronella in Westport, represents associates at the store.
