The latest Quinnipiac University Poll finds that with less than two months until Election Day, Democrat Zohran Mamdani leads the race for New York City mayor with 45% support among likely voters.
He is followed by former Gov. Andrew Cuomo running as an independent candidate with 23%, Republican Curtis Sliwa with 15%, and Mayor Eric Adams running as an independent candidate with 12%.
In the wake of reports that Mayor Adams may be offered a job by the Trump administration and exit the race, a look at a hypothetical 3-way race shows Mamdani leading with 46 percent support among likely voters, followed by Cuomo with 30 percent support and Sliwa with 17 percent support.
Immigration and crime
When it comes to immigration in New York City, 60% of likely voters would like to see the next mayor do more to stand up to President Trump, while 35% would like to see the next mayor do more to work with President Trump.

Other key findings
When likely voters were given a list of nine issues and asked which is the most important one in deciding who to vote for in the mayoral election, 30% said crime, 21% said affordable housing, and 13% said inflation. No other issue reached double digits.
Sixty-seven percent of likely voters are either very dissatisfied (29%) or somewhat dissatisfied (38%) with the way things are going in New York City today, while 33% are either very satisfied (3%) or somewhat satisfied (30%).
Two-thirds of likely voters (66%) disapprove of the way Adams is handling his job as mayor, while 28% approve.
967 New York City likely voters were surveyed from Sept- 4- Sept. 8 with a margin of error of +/- 3.9 percentage points, including the design effect.
