REDDING – Meadow Ridge, a continuing care retirement community here, has chosen one of Redding’s most active volunteers with its second annual Heart of the Community Award.
In the spirit of Giving Tuesday on Dec. 3, the award recognizes William Brown for all he has done in the town and in the Meadow Ridge community.
Meadow Ridge, managed by Benchmark Senior Living and developed by Senior Care Development LLC, created the Heart of the Community Award to recognize the important role philanthropy plays in enriching lives and to showcase the impact one person can have, especially in their retirement. For more than 40 years, Brown has been active in civic life, church leadership, local schools, and youth sports. He brought that same energy to Meadow Ridge, serving on multiple committees since he and his wife, Margaret, moved in over four years ago.
“Mr. Brown is the epitome of leadership,” said Benchmark Senior Living Chairman and CEO Tom Grape. “He takes it upon himself to answer the call for help and to serve without expecting anything in return. He truly embodies Benchmark’s core values — Called to Care, Better Together, and Be the Benchmark.”
Within the town of Redding, Brown has led the Joel Barlow Scholarship Fund for more than 20 years and continues to be actively involved in the Mark Twain Library, notably as an instrumental volunteer for their annual book fair. He has been election moderator, serves as a poll worker, and tended trails for the Redding Land Trust. He was involved with his children’s sports teams and activities and still serves his church in many roles. At Meadow Ridge, he is a Resident Board member and sits on several committees.
“One of the most remarkable things about Bill is how he has stayed so involved in the Redding community while also being tremendously active in the Meadow Ridge community,” said Campus Executive Director Chris Barstein. “He sets the bar for service and leadership, and we feel so fortunate to honor him with the Heart of the Community Award.”
Meadow Ridge is one of Connecticut’s most comprehensive continuing care retirement communities. It sits on 136 acres and offers 285 apartment homes of independent living, assisted living, and memory care.
