Lacey Manufacturing Company Inc. is helping craft a college curriculum to train students in advanced manufacturing techniques, part of a $1.8 million federal grant awarded last October.
Based in Bridgeport, Lacey Manufacturing fabricates components and subassemblies for use in medical devices and other products.
The U.S. Department of Labor grant is being administered by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, which is consulting with manufacturers and community colleges, including Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, to develop course work for 400 students in community colleges across the state.
Other companies consulting on the project include:
Ӣ Pratt & Whitney, an aircraft engine maker in East Hartford;
Ӣ Kamatics, a Kaman Corp. bearings subsidiary in Bloomfield;
Ӣ Whitcraft L.L.C., an aerospace machining shop in Eastford;
Ӣ Covidien, the successor company of Tyco Healthcare, which has a North Haven plant; and
Ӣ Trumpf Inc., a metal tools vendor in Farmington.
