Thirty-eight people in Connecticut died last year as a result of injuries sustained on the job, eight fewer than in 2005, the seventh-best improvement in the nation.
Nationwide, 5,703 people died from fatal work injuries, including airplane crashes, down slightly from last year”™s previous record low since the U.S. Census Bureau began tracking workplace fatalities in 1992.
During the past 15 years, the Constitution State”™s low total occurred in 1993 when 31 people died from job-related injuries; the highest death total during that period was 1998, when 57 people died.
Connecticut has a fatality rate below the national rate due to relatively low employment in high-risk occupations.
