White Plains Hospital has been named one of the country”™s Best Hospitals in the inaugural Money (formerly Money magazine) national rankings. The hospital is one of just 148 in the nation ”“ as well as one of only four in New York state, and the only hospital in Westchester County ”“ to be included. (Kudos abound. The hospital has also announced that it has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) ”“ the highest distinction offered by the federal agency.)

Money partnered with the Leapfrog Group, a health-care nonprofit that has been vetting hospitals for more than 20 years, to evaluate more than 2,200 hospitals for inclusion in the Best Hospitals List. Data from 39 performance measures reported in Leapfrog”™s 2021 hospital survey was reviewed across seven different categories, including inpatient care management, adult and pediatric complex surgeries, pediatric care, medication safety, maternity care, outpatient procedures and infections. In addition, hospitals included in the Money Best Hospitals in America List must have earned an “A” letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for fall 2021. In May, White Plains Hospital received its seventh consecutive “A” from the Leapfrog Group for patient safety. The hospital remains the only health-care facility in Westchester County, and one of only 19 hospitals in New York state, to receive the highest possible rating of “A.”
Not that Money considered these, but the hospital also has nice amenities for staff, visitors and patients, including a bustling café and a lovely gift shop. Years ago, we bought a beautiful green clasp bracelet, with distinctive spiraling ends, at the hospital gift shop for $25. While prices have gone up everywhere, they have remained a time capsule at the gift shop. We recently purchased an Asian-accented red summer shawl for $12. And our red and tan ombré imitation Hermès Birkin bag came with a matching red wallet ”“ for $45. A saleswoman told us people come into the hospital just to purchase the shop”™s striking accessories.
It’s one of the best-kept secrets in Westchester ”“ although maybe no longer.
