The Hudson Valley added 14,200 jobs in June, at a rate more than twice as high as state job growth and three times higher than national job growth.
The June rate for nonfarm employment growth was 1.5 percent. New York State added 66,600 jobs, for a growth rate of 0.7 percent. Nationally, 682,000 jobs, or 0.5 percent, were added.
Leisure and hospitality led the growth in the Hudson Valley with 9,100 jobs, followed by professional business services, 3,100; and trade, transportation and utilities with 2,500. The weakest categories were education and health services, with 3,700 fewer jobs, and natural resources, mining and construction with 1,300 fewer jobs.
Most of the Hudson Valley growth was in Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties, which accounted for 12,000 new jobs and a growth rate of 1.7 percent.
The statewide unemployment rate was unchanged from May at 4.7 percent, and is below the national unemployment rate of 4.9 percent.
The job counts are based on a monthly payroll survey of 18,000 New York employers by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate is based on the current population survey and a monthly survey of 3,100 households.
