With a $1.5 million state loan, Sun Products Corp. is leasing 46,000 square feet of space at 30 Trefoil Drive in Trumbull for a research center that will employ 50 people, complementing an existing facility in Salt Lake City.
The facility was previously used by Cadbury Schweppes, which moved its operation last year to Plano, Texas.
Wilton-based Sun Products was created last year in a spinout of Unilever”™s laundry detergent business, including the Wisk and Snuggle brands. The new facility will bring its Fairfield County work force to 200 people. It was one of the largest lease transactions to date in 2009, according to broker Cushman & Wakefield, which represented both Sun and the building owner New Boston Fund.
Unilever is the largest employer in Trumbull with about 1,500 people in its research facility.
The state Department of Economic and Community Development is providing a $1.5 million loan and Sun indicated it would take advantage of a state tax credit for companies that create jobs.
