Akzo Nobel Inc., an international coatings and chemicals manufacturer, has been awarded a $292,300 grant by Empire State Development Corp. to offset approximately $4.41 million in equipment costs at its facilities in Westchester and Putnam counties.
With its parent company based in the Netherlands, Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry L.L.C. operates a 66,000-square-foot research and development facility in Brewster. The company houses its legal and engineering departments and business administrative services in a 16,609-square-foot facility on White Plains Road in Tarrytown.
The operations formerly were in Dobbs Ferry. Empire State Development officials said the company had considered relocating outside New York state. Instead Akzo Nobel will retain 85 jobs here.
