GREENWICH – Greenwich Hospital has taken a next step in its broader Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich Hospital project as it recently opened a new 10,500-square-foot inpatient oncology suite.
The 14-bed, all-private oncology unit was built to support the future of oncology at the hospital. The suite integrates advanced clinical capabilities with an environment intentionally designed around the patient and family experience.
The new oncology suite offers:
- Private-room design that enhances infection prevention, privacy and recovery outcomes
- Integrated technology platforms supporting cutting-edge therapies and evolving treatment protocols
- Dedicated space to support family presence as an active component of healing
- Optimized layouts that enable deeper, more personalized patient-provider engagement
“This is not just a new unit, it’s a deliberate step forward in how cancer care is delivered in this region,” said Bob Blenderman, president of Greenwich Hospital. “Patients today have choices, and they are seeking environments that combine clinical sophistication with humanity. This suite reflects our commitment to both, while advancing our ability to bring the latest therapies and multidisciplinary expertise closer to home.”
Earlier in the month Greenwich Hospital, Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) and Smilow Cancer Hospital marked a significant milestone as they celebrated the construction of the new Smilow Cancer Hospital within the walls of Greenwich Hospital.
The event brought together leaders from across all three health care organizations as well as clinicians, staff and community partners to commemorate the beginning of the hospital’s oncology campus transformation.
When finished, the new Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich Hospital will offer patients a seamless, state‑of‑the‑art, multidisciplinary healing environment designed to support them at every step. The entire project is set to be completed in early 2029.
