Reporting from Hearst Connecticut Media revealed that Governor Ned Lamont’s Greenwich home was the site of an unauthorized removal of more than 180 trees roughly five months ago. The cuttings were done without permits or permissions, and occurred within a protected wetland.
Documents from Greenwich’s Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Agency (IWWA) show that the Governor, his neighbors, and the Ashton Drive Association which owns some of the land where contractors allegedly hired by the Lamonts removed trees were all issued citations.
Commentators allege that the goal of the cutting was to improve the view from two homes, including Lamont’s.
According to Hearst, when asked about the situation, Lamont described it as “a dispute between the association and one of the neighbors.”
“The association and the neighbors are working it out,” he told the publication.
Fines and litigation are reportedly being considered by the IWWA.
