Eye on Small Business: Dimopoulos Bruggemann PC, Tuckahoe

It is by no means unusual for successful New York City businesses and services to expand into the “wilds” of Westchester and Fairfield counties. But a Tuckahoe-based legal practice broadening its horizons with spanking new premises on 57th Street in midtown Manhattan is an interesting step in the other direction. A sort of “man bites dog” scenario, if you will.

That is the case – no pun intended – with the matrimonial and family law firm, Dimopoulos Bruggemnan PC, which has built a reputation over more than 20 years as a trusted source for strategic counsel and innovative solutions when matters seem insurmountable.

Originally established in 1995 by James Maniatis – “a giant in the New York City legal industry,” said Gus Dimopoulos, who first joined the firm as an associate and is now managing partner – Dimopoulos Bruggemann focuses on divorce; child custody and support; prenuptial and postnuptial agreements; and matrimonial appeals, also serving Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland and Orange counties.

The child of long-married Greek immigrants, the Queens-born Dimopoulos grew up in Scarsdale where he attended Scarsdale High School. After graduating from New York University in Manhattan and Fordham University School of Law in the Bronx, he worked in a big law firm in New York City before moving back to Westchester with his wife, Ismini, with whom he also partners in Dimos Capital, the Westchester-based real estate investment company she runs. Dimopoulos is known as both a skilled negotiator and trial lawyer, one who is not afraid to fight for sole custody when the case demands it and who can get a fair shake, and more, for clients in New York, an equitable distribution state.

With a B.A. from Emerson College, cum laude, and a J.D. from New York Law School, cum laude, Atty Bruggemann brings her particular expertise in child custody and support to the firm, where she made partner in 2018. Born in Weston and raised in Norwalk, Bruggemann said she always appreciated the proximity of Westchester – where she and her husband are now raising their three children in New Rochelle – to the Big Apple, their former home.

Regarding the professional expansion there, Dimopoulos said the new office would enable the partners to meet with clients, witnesses and experts in the privacy and comfort of their own office space in a great location.

“Although we’ve been handling divorce matters in Manhattan for years,” he said, “there has been an increased demand for us to take on more complex and demanding cases, which requires more of a presence in New York City.”

While the move marks a significant milestone for the firm, its approach to clients and the law will stay the same.

“As we open this new office, our commitment to providing top-tier legal representation and personalized attention remains stronger than ever,” said Dimopoulos. “We are now in a position to better serve our clients’ evolving needs with greater convenience and flexibility.”

Added Bruggemann: “With two locations, we can better serve clients across the region, offering more accessibility during some of the most challenging times in their lives.”
