Westchester County is looking for nominees for the first-ever conservation awards through its Soil and Water Conservation district.
The awards will be given to nonprofits, public and private schools and municipalities for projects and activities that took place in the last three years, according to the district. Anyone can nominate a group for water and soil conservation, management and restoration projects.
Nominations are available online with written instructions and will accepted until Oct. 3.
The district was formed in 1967 under state law. Westchester”™s citizen board of directors has seven members who receive support from the Department of Planning. Board Chairwoman Jan Blair said, “The district addresses a wide range of concerns, such as improving water quality and controlling excessive stormwater runoff by applying best stormwater management practices and advocating this through public education and outreach.”
