New York State Senator Rob Rolison (R-39th District) honored, on Tuesday, May 5, Karen Hochhauser, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Dutchess County, as the 2026 Woman of Distinction for the 39th Senate District.
The New York State Senate’s Women of Distinction program, held annually, honors outstanding women across New York state whose contributions have strengthened their communities and improved the lives of others.
“Karen embodies the very spirit of service, leadership and compassion that this honor represents,” said Rolison. “As our 2026 Woman of Distinction, her impact on our community and on those fortunate enough to call her a friend will be felt for generations to come.”
A lifelong resident of Dutchess County, Hochhauser brings both deep local roots and a global perspective to her leadership. After spending nearly two decades living in Asia, where she raised her three children, she returned home with a renewed commitment to serve the community that shaped her. In her role as executive director of the Jewish Federation of Dutchess County, Hochhauser has focused on strengthening community connections, supporting families, and expanding access to critical resources and services across the region. Drawing on experience across multiple industries and international leadership roles, she has taken a practical, people-first approach centered on bringing individuals together and responding to the evolving needs of the community.
In addition to her work with the Federation, Hochhauser is a certified executive leadership coach and is dedicated to empowering others, particularly women, with the skills, confidence and support needed to succeed in leadership roles.

My family’s roots in the Hudson Valley go back 85 years, and I stand here today because of the maternal role models who came before me. My mother, grandmother, and aunt instilled in me the value of Tikkun Olam — the Hebrew concept of ‘repairing the world.’ I have always believed that leadership is about example, and that our collective strength is found in our individual acts of service. I am humbled to be in the company of such extraordinary women, and I thank Senator Rolison for his continued support of our community.”
Rolison was reelected to the New York State Senate for a second term in November 2024. The 39th Senate District included parts of Dutchess, Putnam, and Orange counties.
