BioTheryX Inc., a biomedical company headquartered in Chappaqua, has been awarded a $289,518 grant from the National Institutes of Health to test in mice a potential treatment for pancreatic cancer as well as blood cancer and tumors.
The award was announced by U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee. “Cutting-edge medical research in the lower Hudson Valley is not only one of our region”™s economic engines, but is also helping to find important breakthroughs and treatments for millions of Americans,” she said.
Lawrence Zaslow, president of BioTheryX, said the company”™s management team is “quite excited about the potential of this compound.” The grant will allow BioTheryX to move on to the next phase of preclinical testing, he said.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in 2010 provided BioTheryX with $4.5 million in equity financing to accelerate the development of new therapies for blood cancers with an initial focus on acute myelogenous leukemia.
