FAIRFIELD – Cingari Family Markets plans to expand its ShopRite on Black Rock Turnpike into the adjacent former Party City location, President and CEO Tom Cingari, Sr. announced today.
ShopRite of Fairfield, located at 1975 Black Rock Turnpike, will move into the13,000-square‑foot space by spring 2026 after construction is complete. The store will remain open throughout the renovation.
“We’re excited to provide our Fairfield neighbors the larger‑footprint store they deserve,” said Cingari. “This expansion means more of the quality products, fresh bakery items and convenient meal solutions our customers love – all in one place.”
Turnpike Shopping Center LLC, owner of the shopping center that houses ShopRite, was given a permit to demolish the interior of the former Party City store on Sept. 4. According to the permit, the contractor is Structure Craft Contracting of Mount Vernon, New York. The cost of the construction is approximately $50,000, according to the permit.
The expanded supermarket will deliver a significantly enhanced shopping experience, featuring:
- Additional grocery aisles with expanded dry goods, international specialties and health‑focused products
- A larger bakery offering artisan breads, pastries and custom cakes
- An expanded floral department with a wider selection of fresh flowers and arrangements
- More grab‑and‑go options, including new heat‑and‑serve entrées, salad kits and snack bundles
- A larger international cheese section
- Additional frozen food and dairy cases to accommodate more frozen entrées, sides, specialty desserts and dairy products.
The Fairfield ShopRite is the anchor for the Turnpike Shopping Center at 1901 Black Rock Turnpike. The center includes such tenants as Webster Bank, Pearl Vision, Choice Pet, Bricks & Minifigs and Rehabilitation Associates.
The Fairfield expansion marks the 12th renovation of 10 ShopRite stores and two Grade A Markets across southwestern Connecticut over the past four years. The most recent store to be refurbished is the ShopRite in Southbury.
ShopRite operates as a retail cooperative under New Jersey-based Wakefern Food Corp. The cooperative, which has 45 member companies that operate 365 ShopRite and 60 PriceRite stores, was started in 1946 in Hunt’s Point in the Bronx by five grocers who pooled their resources to offer lower prices for produce.
