The new White Plains office of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) opens Monday, Jan. 23. The DMV had been located at the White Plains Mall, but moved out because the mall was being torn down to make way for a mixed-use project known as Hamilton Green. The DMV had been operating a temporary office in Tarrytown pending readiness of the new White Plains location. The Tarrytown office closed this past Friday.
The new DMV office is located at the Source at White Plains at 1 Maple Ave.
“We are very excited to open this new, more modern office to serve our customers in White Plains and throughout Westchester County,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J. F. Schroeder. “Our biggest focus with every office relocation or remodel is to improve the experience for those we serve. This office provides easy access, ample parking, and a convenient location for the residents in this area.”
The DMV said it is taking a customer-first approach to its transformation effort by expanding online services, implementing enhanced customer service initiatives in its offices, streamlining transactions, optimizing its brick-and-mortar footprint to make the customer flow as efficient as possible, and exploring new ways for customers to communicate with the agency. It also has been reminding state residents that they need to apply through the DMV for a REAL ID driver’s license that is accepted by federal authorities for identification when traveling by air. The new federal deadline for REAL ID is May 7, 2025.
