ORANGE — As part of its new “Main Street” campaign in Bridgeport, Avangrid subsidiaries United Illuminating (UI) and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) city businesses can receive limited time increased incentives on all measures up to 90% of the cost to install energy efficiency improvements.
Under the program, which is made possible through the Energize Connecticut (TM) Small Business Energy Advantage (SBEA) program, businesses can also receive a 100% incentive on weatherization measures such as weatherstripping, window replacement, air sealing, and insulation, up to $20,000 and 20,000 square feet. These bonus incentives are valid through the end of August.
“Making improvements to our homes and businesses to increase their energy efficiency is critical to reducing energy waste and saving money on utility bills,” said Frank Reynolds, president and CEO of UI and SCG. “The ‘Main Street’ campaign is a great opportunity to leverage significant discounts on building upgrades. I look forward to seeing more businesses in our community commit to becoming more energy efficient.”
The SBEA program aims to analyze and reduce energy usage for businesses by upgrading to energy-efficient equipment in an effort to minimize energy waste and save businesses money. Through the program, which is funded by a charge on customer energy bills, Connecticut businesses can receive a no-cost energy assessment, a comprehensive proposal of all eligible energy efficiency measures and incentives to cover a portion of the installed cost.
The “Main Street” campaign aims to promote the SBEA program in traditionally underserved areas of the state by offering additional incentives beyond what is normally offered through SBEA, which can be up to 90% of the up-front costs for the upgrades.
Brewport, a local Bridgeport restaurant and brewpub that participated in SBEA this year. upgraded their lighting performance, HVAC with controls, refrigeration equipment, and domestic hot water fixtures, and received an 83% discount after the incentives.
