GREENWICH – A Connecticut Department of Transportation worker was killed Saturday morning when he was struck by a driver on I-95 in a construction zone, state police reported.
Traymont Tucker, 38, of Waterbury was declared dead at 2:54 a.m. by Greenwich Emergency Medical Services after he was struck by a car driven by Osvaldo Vela of Yonkers, New York, south of Exit 3 in Greenwich.
According to state police, the 2018 Dodge Durango struck Traymont in a closed travel lane after it veered into the construction zone. Vela sustained minor injuries.
State police from Troop G are investigating the cause of the crash.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation and the union representing Tucker offered condolences to Tucker’s family.
“Our hearts go out to the friends, family, and loved ones of Traymont Tucker,” said Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto . “Our entire agency grieves with all those impacted by this morning’s horrific event.
“This tragedy underscores how dangerous working on the highway is and how critical it is for everyone to do their part to keep workers safe. It is simply unacceptable that these preventable tragedies keep occurring. We need the public to follow the slow down, move over law; stay alert; and drive sober. These actions save lives.”
The Local 146 Laborers union was saddened by Tucker’s tragic loss.
They issued the following statement: “We’re heartbroken to share that our beloved Local 146 Union brother, Traymont Tucker, was tragically struck by a vehicle while working on I-95 in Greenwich this morning and has passed away. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and co-workers during this painful time. Please keep them in your thoughts.”
