W&M Properties, which owns and manages commercial office buildings in Westchester and Fairfield County, Conn., has been renamed as part of a broad rebranding program by the family behind several real estate businesses in the metropolitan area.
The company is now named Malkin Properties L.L.C. A related business, the former W&M Construction Corp., has been renamed Malkin Construction Corp. The rebranding was announced by Peter L. Malkin, chairman of the family”™s real estate companies based in New York City, and his son and company president, Anthony E. Malkin.
The company owns 10 Bank St. in downtown White Plains and 500 Mamaroneck Ave. in the town of Harrison. In Fairfield County, Malkin Properties L.L.C. owns First Stamford Place, the MerrittView and the Metro Center and Metro Tower at the Stamford Transportation Center. The company also owns retail properties in Westport, Conn.
Anthony Malkin said the rebranding was done to create a more clearly defined company identity among tenants, brokers, lenders and investors.
The “W” in the company”™s former name was the late Lawrence A. Wien, Peter Malkin”™s father-in-law and long-time business partner. Wien, who created the concept of real estate syndication in the 1930s, assembled a portfolio of syndicated trophy properties in New York with his son-in-law and the late Harry Helmsley. Those nine pre-war Manhattan properties, which include the Empire State Building, will keep their W&H Properties brand, the Malkins said.
The Malkin family”™s entities own approximately 11 million square feet of office space in the metropolitan area, 1.8 million square feet of retail space, 1.4 million square feet of warehouse/distribution space and 2,700 multifamily units. The company is also a mezzanine lender and equity investor for real estate entrepreneurs recapitalizing and acquiring properties. The Malkin group is active in 17 states.
