CBO warns Medicaid cuts would leave millions without health care
A report from the Congressional Budget Office say that millions of Americans would lose health care if Republicans on Capitol Hill go ahead with their proposed budget that includes Medicaid cuts to help fund tax cuts. The Republicans are looking to put into place tax cuts totaling $4.5 trillion. The Budget Office’s report says that if the Republican budget is not changed Medicaid enrollment would decrease and the number of people without health insurance would increase. The Congressional Budget Office is a nonpartisan organization.
Reports cite new nominee for surgeon general
The White House did not immediately confirm reports that President Trump is nominating a person who has been close with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to be the country’s surgeon general. She is identified as Casey Means. Trump originally had nominated to the position Janette Nesheiwat, who was a Fox News medical contributor. There were reports that Nesheiwat exaggerated her past medical experience including misidentifying the medical school she attended.
Trump says he’ll help resolve India-Pakistan dispute
President Trump says he’s ready to step in and help relieve tensions between India and Pakistan. Trump said that he gets along well with both countries and hopes both of them will stop their fighting. India said it attacked terrorist infrastructure inside of Pakistan, hitting nine sites. Pakistan said more than two dozen people were killed and that it shot down a number of Indian fighter jets.. Pakistan called what India did an act of war.
Fed holds interest rates steady
Despite public pressure from Donald Trump to cut interest rates, the Federal Reserve has decided to hold rates steady. The Fed said that while changes in data related to exports may have affected economic data, recent indicators suggest that economic activity has continued to expand at a solid pace. The Fed noted that the unemployment rate has stabilized at a low level in recent months, and labor market conditions remain solid. Inflation remains somewhat elevated. The Fed said it remains strongly committed to supporting maximum employment and getting inflation down to its 2% objective.
Biden is interviewed by BBC
Former President Joe Biden has been interviewed by the British Broadcasting Corporation and he says that President Trump suggesting that Ukraine give up the territory that Russia captured is a modern day appeasement, in the same way that Adolf Hitler was appeased when he was allowed to annex Czechoslovakia. Biden also said that he didn’t see anything triumphant in Trumps first 100 days in office. He also warned that the NATO alliance is at risk under Trump.
Disney plans theme park in Middle East
The Walt Disney Company and the Abu Dhabi company Miral announced an agreement to create a new Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The waterfront resort will be located on Yas Island, which is about 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi. This will be the seventh Disney theme park resort. Disney’s CEO Robert A. Iger said that the new theme park will bring to life timeless Disney characters and stories in many new ways.
