Zwilling J.A. Henckels International L.L.C., the cutlery firm, is expected to begin construction at its new Pleasantville headquarters in a month, hoping to move in next year.
Henckels will be moving into the former 112,000-square-foot Medical Laboratory Associates property on Marble Avenue, which has been vacant for more than a decade, and was previously owned by Stop and Shop Supermarket Co. The company is awaiting permits from the building department. It closed on the property last fall.
Henckels, which will employ 75 people at the site, plans to maintain the existing footprint. There will be about 100,000 square feet of warehouse space with the balance of the facility to be used as office space. The company also has plans to raise the roof to have more clearance and to rebuild the front of the building.
Henckels plans to use the space as a warehouse and distribution site as well as for offices. Company representatives said they expected three trucks to enter and exit the property each day.
The move is a huge coup for the village, which has been looking for a buyer on that property for years, frustrated with the eyesore that MLA had become. Stop and Shop had also filed several tax certioraris since the property value had declined over the years.
