Dianon Systems Inc. is up and running in its new 88,000-square-foot laboratory facility at 1 Forest Parkway in Shelton.
Dianon is bringing with it to Shelton the company’s more than 350 employees from Stratford.
Formerly a Stratford shop, Dianon, a division of LabCorp, began renovations in Shelton in May.
According to Bill Purcell, president of The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, Dianon is a strong addition to the cluster of medical-science-based companies in Shelton including Cara Therapeutics, Health Net and Perkin Elmer.
The Dianon construction was recently finished in Shelton, with a three-story building transformed from office space to an “anatomic pathology laboratory center.”
According to Dianon, the company uprooted to Shelton in favor of a new facility that could offer 25 percent more space than the company previously possessed in Stratford and room to expand.
The former tenant occupying the building was Market Data Retrieval, which relocated to another location in Shelton.
According to Dianon, the facility is prepared to service much of the Northeast with it laboratories specializing in microscopic analysis, flow cytometry, image cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular genetics.
Dianon”™s reach serves more than 14,000 of the 50,000 oncology, urology, dermatology, gynecology and gastroenterology specialists practicing in the United States. Approximately 1,100 employees process more than 8,000 samples per day in one main testing facility and four regional labs located across the country.
The remade building includes a 1500 kw generator allowing Dianon Systems to participate in a demand reduction program with United Illuminating.
