Community Health Center Association of Connecticut (CHC/ACT) presented Norwalk Community Health Center (NCHC) Chair Joe Mann with the association’s Board Member of Year award at its annual conference in November. Mann, a Norwalk resident, former two-term state representative and retired nonprofit executive, has been active with NCHC as a board director and leader for more than 20 years. A nationally recognized Norwalk-based nonprofit health, dental and wellness provider, NCHC is relied upon by 13,000 men, women and children for their health care.
“While I in no way anticipated that I might be receiving an award, I was honored to accept it as a recognition that my contributions are noticed and appreciated,” Mann said, on being presented the award by CHC/ACT CEO Shawn Frick.
“I’ve served on the NCHC Board for so long because I care about my community and everyone that is a part of it,” Mann added. “I believe that everyone should have access to quality health care without regard to their financial situation. I am grateful for the existence of NCHC and committed to doing all that I can to assure that it is providing the very best health care to its patients. We have a great group of people through which all of our success is achieved, and I am just grateful to be a part of the team.”
An independent nonprofit health-care provider, NCHC started out in 1999 and remains a safety net for 15% of greater Norwalk men, women and children who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise unable to find health care within reach. Over the last 25 years it has evolved into a continuum of care organization and provider of choice; a seasonal farmers market; and a Diaper Bank, in partnership with Nuvance and Diaper Bank of Connecticut. NCHC is ranked among the top health centers in the nation by US Health Resource and Service Administration (HRSA).
With its flagship location at 120 Connecticut Ave., Norwalk, patients can also access care at its satellite.Â
Incorporated in 1989, CHC/ACT’s mission is to advance and align the work of all of its 16 member centers’ health centers with stakeholders, to improve the health and wellness of all, including the 440,000 primary medical, dental and behavioral health patients Connecticut health centers see every year.
