MOUNT PLEASANT – Mount Pleasant Police Chief Paul Oliva Jr. has been elected president of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police’s (NYSACOP) Board of Officers.
Chief Oliva took his oath of office on July 14 at the organization’s 2025 Training Conference in Monticello. For Oliva the election marks a significant moment, as he assumes the presidency 45 years after his father, former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Paul Oliva Sr., took a similar oath in 1980. His father led the Mount Pleasant Police Department from 1968 until 1992.
“It is an incredible honor to be elected to lead the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, especially following in the footsteps of my father,” said Chief Oliva. “This organization is devoted to excellence in law enforcement and ensuring justice for all, and I am deeply committed to upholding that legacy.”
The NYSACOP is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to those who maintain law and order and supports the more than 500 police chiefs. The primary purpose of the association is to gather, disseminate, and promote useful information to New York’s law enforcement agencies.
“Chief Oliva’s dedication and outstanding leadership have been invaluable to our community, and I have no doubt that his vision and commitment will help the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police continue to thrive and achieve new heights in serving law enforcement across the state,” said Mount Pleasant Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi.
Chief Oliva Jr. has served as the town’s police chief since 2014, following 25 years of service to the force as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant. He initially joined the Mount Pleasant Police in 1988.
