DANBURY – The Danbury Fair Mall’s “Ferris wheel” of retailers continues to rotate as a major outdoor apparel and gear store prepares to close, a children’s clothing store moved, a Chinese lifestyle outlet, and a national active wear shop have opened.
Such is life at a 40-year-old mall with a history that dates back to the Danbury Fair. It’s also a mall that has contemplated building apartments in the vacant Lord & Taylor department store.
Last week a spokesperson for Catalyst Brands, the parent company of Eddie Bauer, confirmed that store at the mall will close July 29.
As part of the closure, Eddie Bauer announced a 70% clearance markdown sale that ends on July 22.
“We are constantly evaluating our real estate portfolio to ensure both business performance and an exceptional customer experience,” the Eddie Bauer spokesperson said. “Individual closures in specific locations happen from time to time due to expiring lease agreements, market changes or other factors. While it is never an easy decision to close a location, we appreciate the relationships we have established with our customers.”
Meanwhile, The Children’s Place has moved to a renovated spot on the first floor next to Macy’s. The store had been closed since January.
On the “upswing” of retailers at Danbury Fair Mall, the following retailers have opened: Miniso, an international lifestyle retailer known for affordable merchandise and brand collaborations; GOAT USA, a national active wear clothing store featuring togs for men, women and children; JD Sports; Pop Mart, Think of Kicks, Perfumania, and Offline by Aerie. The luxury bag and shoes retailer Coach is also due to open a store in the mall later this year.
