“Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts will give the commencement address at The College of New Rochelle’s May ceremony, and will receive an honorary degree from the college.
Roberts will be honored along with Elizabeth LeVaca, the chair of the college’s Board of Trustees, at commencement May 24 at the Beacon Theatre.
“Good Morning America” has won four Emmy Awards with Roberts as co-anchor. In 2014, Roberts launched her own production company, Rock’n Robin Productions, which creates original broadcast and digital programming for ABC and other networks. That was part of an especially busy year for Roberts. Also in 2014, she received the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence, was inducted into the the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame and named one of Glamour’s Women of the Year. A bone marrow transplant Roberts received in 2012 after being diagnosed with blood and bone marrow disease led her to create programming to drive an increase in bone marrow donor registration.
Judith Huntington, President of The College of New Rochelle, said Roberts is an accomplished woman who “excelled in her profession, while also demonstrating tremendous strength, perseverance and courage when faced with personal health challenges.”
LeVaca has served on the college’s board for more than 14 years and will step down as chair after commencement. She is credited with implementing a new strategic plan for the college, driving millions in grants to the school and the decision to make the historically all-women School of the Arts & Sciences coeducational.
“The college is considerably stronger today as a result of Elizabeth”™s extraordinary leadership, generosity, and guidance,” Huntington said.
