Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, recognized as the world”™s oldest and largest private institution devoted to prevention, patient care, research, and education in cancer, Â is opening a center for patients in Hawthorne.
The new site will provide  chemotherapy, biotherapy and other infusion therapies, medications and blood and blood products developed through a dedicated on-site pharmacy, as well as consultation, evaluation and management of patients.
The hospital announced this week they are partnering with Westchester Medical Center, in an effort to expand the hospital”™s presence in the county. Craig B. Thompson, M.D., President of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, said this is the first marks the time the cancer center has entered into this type of agreement.
The outpatient arm of the hospital will be an infusion center with  a medical office at 19 Bradhurst Ave. in Hawthorne. Cancer patients of Westchester Medical Center who have been receiving outpatient intravenous medication at the medical center’s main Valhalla campus  will be able to receive treatment at the new Hawthorne center.
Members of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering staff will provide clinical services as well as broad day-to-day oversight and staffing for the program.
Additionally, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering outpatient facility at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow will continue to receive patients.
