Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that New York state is slated to receive a $27 million federal grant to help with Hurricane Sandy cleanup efforts. That money will also put more than 5,000 unemployed residents back to work.
The grant is designated for counties including but not limited to Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Ulster and Putnam.
New York’s Department of Labor will oversee the program. Those who want to apply are encouraged to contact the Department of Labor at 888-4-NYSDOL or visit labor.ny.gov/sandyjobs.
Additionally, Cuomo revealed a program that will replace Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) workers, many of whom live outside New York, with roughly 700 state residents.
