The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is set to raise subway and bus fares in the new year. Additionally, drivers and Metro North train passengers will also have to pay more.
The base fare for buses and the subway will increase by 25 cents to $2.50. Single-ride tickets will cost $2.75. The MetroCard will go up to $112 for an unlimited monthly pass.
Commuters that ride the Metro North will see their fares rise by 9 percent. And, those who drive into and out of the metro area will pay $7.50 in tolls each way. Despite public outcry and the MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota’s admission that riders “pay too much of the cost” for the agency, the MTA board agreed on the price hike.
The fare increases will take effect March 1.
