While foreclosures increased in Westchester County in 2012, county officials say that’s just mirroring national trends.
Foreclosure filings in Westchester last year hit 1,820, with 207 judgments. That was an increase from 2011, which saw 1,654 filings and 177 judgments.
Foreclosure filings hit their peak in 2009 with 3,123 filings, and judgments hit their peak in 2008 with 1,034.
“The foreclosure figures for 2012 parallel a trend in judicial foreclosure states which are reporting a slight increase in foreclosures,” said Westchester County Clerk Timothy C. Idoni.
Idoni said that any Westchester resident facing foreclosure should consult with trained foreclosure counselors.
“Foreclosure rescue schemes have become more sophisticated,” he said. “If you approached with an offer that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
