
FAIRFIELD – As the first selectperson special election race enters its final days, the Democratic incumbent Christine Vitale has outraised the Republican challenger state Sen. Tony Hwang by 48%, or $37,607, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Town Clerk.
From Sept. 4, 2025-Dec. 31, 2025, the Vitale campaign raised a total of $117,435, including $8,000 from several local and state political action committees (PAC). A large majority of the funds ($91,435) was raised from Oct. 1-Dec. 31.
The first selectperson, who has served in the position the past six months following the passing of First Selectman Bill Gerber, spent $55,977.97 in advertising, social media, campaign headquarters and other campaign-related costs.
As for Sen. Hwang, his campaign raised a total of $79,808 in the same time period. He spent $41,896 in advertising, social media, campaign headquarters and other campaign-related costs.
Vitale received $1,000 donations from 26 donors and five PACs. Of the donations, 11 were from retired residents and four attorneys. Her top donors included:
