ORANGE – Avangrid utility subsidiaries United Illuminating (UI), Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG), and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) have collected 2,821 non-perishable food items to be donated to local organizations Connecticut Foodshare and Hands on Hartford.
The initiative comes as families across Connecticut prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday amid ongoing challenges with food insecurity. This initiative was part of a larger Avangrid-wide effort across 27 offices in Connecticut, Maine, New York, and Oregon for a total collection of more than 10,000 food items donated to 20 food pantries.
“Too many individuals and families in our communities are facing hunger on a regular basis, and it’s important for us to do our part in helping our neighbors,” said Frank Reynolds, president and CEO of UI, CNG, and SCG. “I am deeply proud of the teams at UI, SCG, and CNG for coming together and lending a helping hand to contribute to solutions that ease the food insecurity crisis here in Connecticut. Thank you to Connecticut Foodshare and Hands on Hartford for your continued partnerships.”
The food drive was powered by the generosity of employees across the three companies, who collected and donated items ranging from canned goods to pantry staples and volunteered their time to coordinate the collection and delivery of the donations.
Hands on Hartford serves Hartford residents to increase housing and food security, and Connecticut Foodshare supports residents throughout the state to deliver an informed and equitable response to hunger.
Through these partnerships, UI, SCG, and CNG were able to donate food to those who need it the most. The food drive is part of an ongoing commitment to strengthen communities through volunteerism and programs.
