Research In Motion (RIM) announced today it will roll out its new BlackBerry 10 platform and its first two BlackBerry 10 smartphones Jan. 30, 2013.
The release is seen as critical for RIM, which has lost significant chunks of its North American market share to iPhone and Android users.
RIM said its new platform would allow for seamless navigation across open applications and its new keyboard function would adapt to each individual user’s tendencies, resulting in faster and more accurate typing.
The platform has also achieved FIPS 140-2 certification, which will enable government agencies to begin using BlackBerry 10 smartphones as soon as they become available.
RIM said more details about the new phones and their availability would be announced at the unveiling, which will happen simultaneously in multiple countries.
