Gov. M. Jodi Rell nominated Amey Marrella as commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, with Marrella having led DEP on an acting basis since June.
Marrella, 50, would replace Gina McCarthy as DEP commissioner, after McCarthy left in June to become assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The Connecticut General Assembly will not reconvene until January to vote on gubernatorial nominations.
Marrella is a onetime associate with the Washington, D.C. office of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, subsequently becoming an EPA attorney working on the Clean Air Act.
As a member of the Republican Party, she later became first selectman of Woodbridge, where she lives with her husband, John. In 2006, she became DEP”™s deputy commissioner for environmental quality.
Marrella holds degrees from Williams College and Harvard University School of Law.
