The Quinnipiac University Poll in Hamden late on March 9 released results of a new poll on various aspects of the war President Trump launched against Iran. The poll found that a majority of voters oppose the U.S. military action, do not want to see U.S. ground troops sent into Iran, and do not expect a quick end to the conflict. More than three-quarters think it is likely that the U.S. military action against Iran will result in a terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
The poll found that 53% of voters oppose the U.S. military action against Iran, while 40% support it. When looked at from a standpoint of political affiliation, 89% of Democrats oppose the war versus 7% who favor it. Among independents, 60% oppose the war while 31% support it. Among Republicans, 85% support the war and 11% oppose it.

When it comes to sending U.S. troops into Iran to fight on the ground, 74% oppose the idea while 20% support it. While 95% of Democrats and 75% of independents oppose sending in troops, 52% of Republicans also are against such action.
“Voters are unenthusiastic about the air attack on Iran and there is overwhelming opposition to putting American troops on Iranian soil to fight a ground war,” said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy. “Americans see no early end to the enormous upheaval in the Middle East.”
When asked whether they think it is likely that there will be a terrorist attack on U.S. soil in reaction to the war 77% said they did while 12%Â think it is not so likely and 7% said it is not at all likely.
More than 74% of voters were concerned about the U.S. military action against Iran  causing oil and gasoline prices to rise in the U. S.
“Voters know the score: pain at the pump is inevitable. When about 20% of the world’s oil flows through a region torn apart by conflict, it will eventually hit home at the local filling station,” Malloy said.
Quinnipiac asked what people think about the way Secretary of State Rubio and Secretary of Defense Hegseth are handling their jobs. Forty percent of voters approve of the way Rubio is handling his job while 47% disapprove with 13% did not offer an opinion. Only 37% of voters approve of the way Hegseth is handling his job with 52% disapproving and 11% not offering an opinion.
As for Donald Trump, 37% of voters approve of the way he is handling his job as president, while 57% disapprove, essentially unchanged from Quinnipiac University’s poll taken on Feb. 4. Trump was underwater on his handling of Iran, his handling of foreign policy in general, and his handling of the economy.
