For those for whom Tropical Storm Fay dampened vacations at Walt Disney World, some were able to get a ray of sunshine from the experience.
Through early September, 350 people have received travel refunds under the Sunshine Guaranteed promotion offered by Norwalk-based Priceline.com, which covers airfare, hotel, rental car and other costs.
Priceline.com spokesman Brian Ek did not detail how many people have signed up for the program.
The company holds an insurance policy to help cover refunds.
Likely because of Tropical Storm Fay, whose zigzagging track made landfall a record four times in Florida, Orlando travelers have led in refunds, with the top reported giveback at $4,100 for a family that spent eight days there.
The next three most-refunded vacation destinations were Chicago, Miami and New York City. To qualify for a refund, it must rain at least a half inch on half the days of a vacation stay.
“The places that you would normally think would deliver the refunds aren”™t, mainly because the rain requirement is very specific,” Ek said. “A place like Oregon you would think would qualify, but it might get a little rain in the morning and then that”™s about it.”
New Orleans was the most surprising omission from the Top 50 list, Ek said.
