Claiming a bipartisan message, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy urged House Republicans to “heed our call” and reopen the federal government.
“This morning, House Republicans failed to meet a most basic responsibility of a member of Congress: to fund the government operations and programs that they themselves have authorized,” Malloy, a Democrat, said in a prepared statement. “Consequently, the federal government has shut down and the American people are suffering the consequences. So, now, citizens of Connecticut who work for the federal government will not be paid, federal contractors will be laid off, new loans to Connecticut small businesses won”™t be made, and the list goes on and on. As much as we can, the state will work to mitigate the disruption caused by this wanton act of ideological excess.”
House Republicans believe they are standing firm in the face of an unpopular health mandate ”“ Obamacare ”“ and as of press time vowed to fight on.
“Again, I call on House Republicans to stop this irresponsible behavior and pass a clean continuing resolution that funds the government and increases the statutory debt cap,” Malloy said. “Then they should work with the President and the Senate towards a long-term, balanced and bipartisan plan that responsibly reduces the deficit while preserving our national priorities and ensures the creditworthiness of the United States. Yesterday the nation”™s governors sent a bipartisan letter to Congressional leaders to that effect. House Republicans would be wise heed our call made on behalf of all Americans.”
I find Gov. Malloy a bit arrogant when he presumes to speak for me in his message to Republicans: “House Republicans would be wise heed our call made on behalf of all Americans.†I am an American and I’m happy that DC is shut down. They can’t waste so much of my hard-earned money.
ObamaCare is already a disaster and Republicans are right to try to kill it. It was sold to us with lies and got the necessary votes to become law only with bribes. More than 60% of the nation don’t want it. As a result of ACA, companies are cutting staff and hours and dropping coverage. If ACA is such a good deal how come Congress has exempted itself from it and/or gotten subsidies?
Gov. Malloy, I’ll make you a deal. You speak for you and I’ll speak for myself.
