Rep. Jim Himes, a Greenwich Democrat, was appointed to the U.S. House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
With cuts on the horizon for the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Committee is responsible for budgetary oversight within the 17 intelligence committees.

“I am excited and proud to have been appointed to the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence at a time when asymmetric and unconventional threats to our nation will be increasingly identified and countered by our intelligence community,” Himes said in a statement.
“As the recent discussion of the American use of drone technology has illustrated, it is more important than ever that we carefully balance our nation”™s security needs with fundamental civil liberties and core national values. I am eager help craft and oversee our nation”™s effort to respond to emerging security threats and look forward to working in a bipartisan way to build a safer and more secure America,” Himes said.
