BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport Hospital will bring back its weekly Farm Stand this summer with fresh produce from area farms including Smith’s Acres in Niantic. It will run Thursday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 pm starting July 10.
“Food insecurity and limited access to fresh produce have long been major challenges in our community,” said Gina Smith, community health manager in the Office of Health Equity and Community Impact. “Our aim is to provide convenient access to fresh, healthy options for those living in the neighborhood or visiting Bridgeport Hospital.”
The Farm Stand is open to the whole community along with staff, patients and visitors. The first 35 customers each week will receive a five-dollar voucher, good toward a produce purchase.
The Farm Stand will accept cash, credit/debit cards, senior and WIC farmers market program incentives and SNAP/EBT benefits. The SNAP/EBT dollars will be doubled through a partnership with the Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative and End Hunger CT.
The Farm Stand is located at 200 Mill Hill Ave. in Bridgeport and runs through Oct. 30.
